Once you contact me we can schedule a free 15min phone consultation. If we agree to set up an intake appointment, it will likely be set within 1-2 weeks. I will also send you an email that will prompt you to fill out electronic intake paperwork on a secure website.

For the first therapy session we will get to know each other at your pace. I will ask questions about your life story and you will share what you feel comfortable with. Topics we may discuss include mental health symptoms, relationships, and anything you find important for me to know. We will go over your paperwork and discuss the goals you would like to work towards in therapy. I usually try to teach a simple coping strategy that you can take with you after our first session.

I always recommend that we start sessions weekly so that we can build a therapeutic relationship. After a few months some folks feel ready for biweekly sessions and others prefer continued weekly sessions.
The duration of therapy will be unique to each individual and what they came to therapy for. Some clients feel around one year of therapy is enough to meet their goals while others benefit from longer term treatment. Most clients start to notice they feel a bit better after about three months of consistent therapy sessions. As more time goes on, and there is trust built in the therapeutic relationship, many clients tend to uncover unhelpful patterns and find the root of their problems.
